THUNDER MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY
THUNDER CAR RULES: 2007 to 2011

The rules set forth herein are designed to provide fair parameters for competition and a high level of safety. NO expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from publications of or compliance with these rules and regulations, they are intended as a guide for the conduct of sport and are no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official. Driver/ car owner is legally responsible for all crew signed in under car.
It is the Driver/ Car owners' responsibility to ensure his or her car is legal, if there is a question about the rules, email or phone tech committee before you show up, non conforming cars will not be allowed to run except for minor variations. Tires and Safety rules are only subjected to review by Tech only.
REMEMBER, ALL CLASSES MUST COMPLY WITH ALL OTHER RULES WITHIN THE RULE BOOK.
DRIVERS:
1. All drivers must wear driving suit. Driving suits are mandatory.
2. All drivers must wear approved helmet and eye protection.
BODY:
Everything must remain stock except the following:
1. Minimum wheel base 108”.
No Camaros or Mustangs, (no imports). Trucks and station wagons okay. (full
size only)
2. No gutting of car other than interior (flammables).
3. Drivers door only may be gutted for clearance of cage door bars.
4. All side and rear windows must be removed.
5. Factory mirrors only.
6. All doors must be welded shut.
7. Front hoop is allowed in front of radiator, but not to exceed past front bumper.
8. Trunk and hood will be safety-pinned shut, (hood exempt, does not need stock
hinges.
9. Front inner fender may be removed.
SUSPENSION:
1. Front and rear sway bars must use stock mounting (factory OEM only).
2. ALL SUSPENSION COMPONENTS AND MOUNTINGS MUST REMAIN STOCK, from factory.
3. NO heating, cutting, or shimming of springs or coils. No air or coil-over shocks, NO race shocks or springs.
4. Maximum CAMBER shall be 2”, RIGHT FRONT ONLY.
5. Maximum 8” rims. NO ALUMINUM. Aftermarket rim is mandatory on right front.
(a). Maximum 2” offset.
6. Radial tires only (maximum 235). No less than 70 series, (NO RECAPS).
7. All four tires must be either all 14”, or all 15”. TIRE STAGGER IS ALLOWED
8. No industrial tires (eg. Hay Wagon tires).
ENGINE:
1. All power trains must remain STOCK.
2. No more than flat top pistons (four valve reliefs for Chevrolet). OEM only, No POP-UPS.
3. Intake, heads, and exhausts must be cast to cast. No marine or aluminum intakes. No Brezinski’s, no headers.
4. No corvette, camel hump, power-pack, fuel injection, Ford GT, or Ford motorsport heads.
5. Log type exhaust manifolds only (No center dumps).
6. Maximum 2 ½” exhaust pipe, must exit past driver at side of car. Must be shielded from drivers
Compartment. All cars must run mufflers (94 decibels at 100 feet).
7. No high rise intakes or carb spacers.
8. No late model heads on early style blocks.
9. If it doesn’t say you can, YOU CAN’T!!
SAFETY:
1. Must have a minimum of 4 point harness and head support.
2.Proper racing seat recommended.
3. Batteries must be secured in drivers compartment in box with lid and covered with rubber.
4. All cars must have fire extinguisher.
5. All cars must have drivers window net.
6. Stock fuel tanks MUST BE REMOVED. An outboard boat tank or better must be mounted in the trunk at least 12” away from exterior, above hump over rear end housing, O.K.
7. Trunk area must be sealed from drivers compartment.
8. Proper and secure cage must be installed. Seat and all belts must be attached to cage. Minimum 1/34” pipe with minimum .095” wall thickness. Kit cages allowed. Drivers side door must extend into door shell. Minimum 3 door bars each side of car. Cage must be 4 point. Unibody car may weld 1/8” plate to bottom of cage tubes and bolt these to body floor.
*NOTE: CARS 2006 AND PRIOR WILL BE GRANDFATHERED.
9. NO OIL COOLERS ALLOWED IN DRIVERS COMPARTMENT.
10. Roll bars or supports cannot extend past middle of rear axle or firewall.
